Me, Myself & CFD Engine
A little bit of background
CFD Engine is small CFD consultancy that specialises in helping engineering companies build, high-performance, low-cost, in-house CFD capability.
And when I say small, I mean micro / artisan / solo —it’s just me— Robin.
Over the last 7+ years I’ve built a CFD workflow that allows me to consistently deliver complex aerodynamic & hydrodynamic R&D projects on time, on budget & on my own. From championship-winning racecars & stage-winning bicycles to medical-devices & other innovative hardware startups
My CFD workflow, based on OpenFOAM® & ParaView, running in the cloud (Amazon Web Services), is the main reason that I can deliver these projects with limited resources.
Recently I’ve started sharing some of the things I’ve learned along the way, with others who might want to do the same.
There has never been a better time to do in-house CFD, you just might need a bit of help getting to grips with it.
Why you should work with little ol’ me
‘Cos I know what I’m talking about when it comes to doing pragmatic, practical, timely & useful CFD in the context of a busy engineering business.
I know that the rewards of investing in CFD can be high. But I also know that, in some contexts, it doesn’t make sense.
I know that it’s great to have all of the numbers, post-processing & insight that CFD simulations can bring. But I also know that sometimes you just need to know enough to make an informed decision.
Decisions like, will your new widget be better than your current one? Will it be better enough to warrant retooling? Is there something you could do to the current one to make it almost as good as a new one without the outlay? 80-20 is real & so are design freezes, manufacturing deadlines, build times & launch dates.
I know that this isn’t a science project & that any investment in CFD needs to deliver real returns.
Speaking of your which –I don’t bill by the hour– so you’ll always know, in advance, the cost for my involvement.
You’ll work directly with me and only me (there’s no-one else here). No juniors or subcontractors.
Unlike other consultancies, I build my CFD projects with the view that, one-day, you might be running them yourselves, at your place. And I can provide the coaching & support to help you to do just that.
